Moving into Juxtaposition, something unusual happens: the 54/53 pairing drops away, replaced by Gates 61 and 62. Gate 61.1 is Occult Knowledge, and this is where the Cross of Shock lives. These people shock you with detail, with their knowledge, or simply for the sake of shocking you — and, notably, they don't much care whether what they're saying is true. They just like the jolt.

When Chernobyl exploded, a wave of people fled toward places like Ibiza, telling anyone who'd listen wild, wholly invented details — '800 cows died yesterday just outside town' — purely to shock with specifics, true or not.

Sometimes they shock you with truth instead, though there's never any guarantee which. Movements built on shock for its own sake — like early punk, with its safety pins through the skin — probably trace back to someone with this Cross. And honestly, given how serious and self-satisfied people can get, a jolt now and then does some good.
