The polar gates on the other side of the Throat center are the primary gates of Self — of self-experience — the gates that communicate the nature of a person's genuine individuality. All of these gates connect directly to the G-center, the center of our Self, and so they represent three different qualities of self-experience. Gate 8 comes first. There's collective self-identification — logical in gate 31, abstract in gate 33 — and gate 8 represents individual self-identification. It's called Contribution. Above the lines it reads: the basic value that gets realized when individual efforts are applied toward group goals. The essence of this gate shows up in its voice, which sounds like: "I know I can." It also says: "I know I can't." Like all the voice gates, it carries a polarity. "Through my individuality, and with its help, I can make a contribution to the group's effort." That's the nature of gate 8.
