Full breakdown

Environment is a PHS variable calculated from the Design Nodes — from the unconscious, bodily part of the chart. It describes the physical place and setting in which a person's body makes the clearest decisions and feels most stable — not the dream workplace, but literally the space around the body.

The six colors of this variable — Caves, Markets, Kitchens, Mountains, Valleys, and Shores — are geographic and architectural archetypes: enclosure and shelter, lively exchange between people, an atmosphere of transformation and comfort, elevation and overview, flat openness, the border between land and water. The Left/Right arrow inside a color usually distinguishes a more active, lively version of the place from a quieter, more secluded one.

Knowing your environment is especially useful when choosing where to live, work, or simply spend more time during the day — the right surroundings aren't necessarily the most beautiful or prestigious, they're the ones where the body relaxes and thinking becomes clearer.
