The Cross of Ideas describes an intensely fixed nature. The opposition between 11.4 and 12.4 is one of the most important mutative polarities we have as a species. Through Gate 12, mutation happened in the Throat, giving us articulate speech — literally letting us accumulate experience, since we now had language to store it in.

Gate 11's polarity is where mind, in a real sense, began. Mind had always had some level of individuality, but the mutation in the throat — which happened only around 90,000 years ago — is what let us build Maya: not just a creature responding to life's vibrations, but a being capable of building its own world by fixing concepts to things.

Here in Juxtaposition, 12.4 is the Prophet and 11.4 is the Teacher — teacher, sage, or guru. These people are deeply, fixedly driven to express their ideas outward, whether that's a voice crying in the wilderness that no one hears, or real, lasting influence, since 4th lines always carry the potential to influence once they're fixed. These are the people who can become important teachers of how the world — or the body itself — actually works; Einstein carried Gate 11, and it underlies his theory of relativity. If you meet a young person with this configuration, point them in the right direction while they're still forming — it matters enormously to them.
