We arrive at the second variation of Cycles. Gate 54 carries the whole theme of needing recognition, of being able to transform and climb. By the time we reach the left angle, all that remains is the recognition that this is simply how it works. Here, participation and recognition mean entering cycles and completing them as an act of transformation. As we've already seen, this cross carries two defined channels — permanently defined channels running from the Sacral to the Spleen: 42/53 and 54/32. This, incidentally, is Nixon's cross.

Cycles flow from the channel that carries them to us — the Channel of Maturation, the format energy of the abstract process. These people are notable because they don't chase one recognition to hold onto for life; they chase the recognition that lets them enter a cycle, transform through it, complete it, and move on to whatever comes next. That matters enormously to them. Their gift is that once recognized, they commit fully to something until it finishes, whether the process takes ten minutes or ten years. The cycle itself is what matters to them.

These people never hold the same job forever. They may stay in one field but are always looking for a way out into something else. In that movement, someone might run a supermarket for twenty years and then become a senior administrator somewhere with nothing to do with food at all — using the experience and transformation of one cycle as the foundation for moving somewhere completely different. It doesn't have to be the same kind of work, doesn't have to stay in the same industry.

Look at their education and training and you'll often find they were trained as one kind of specialist — architect, engineer, whatever it may be — and then suddenly become something else entirely: a doctor, a geologist, anything. In other words, they complete one cycle and step into another. They may stay in the same broad field while collecting new degrees and feeling wonderful about it, gathering knowledge and transforming as they go — but completion is always the point of their process.

This is one of the strongest crosses there is. It's rare for a cross to carry one defined channel, rarer still to carry two — we've only seen one other cross like this, with 20/34 and 40/37 both defined, also a left angle. This left-angle cross is genuinely powerful — a Generator's cross with a defined Spleen. Historically, these were exactly the forces that helped establish slavery — including their own.

This left angle has been enslaved for ages, because these people make the best slaves imaginable. Get them into servitude and you know they'll transform whatever they touch, and finish the cycle, and their own ambition will push them to do the work as well as it can possibly be done. As long as Generators try to be Manifestors, they remain enslaved — for most of human history, Generators have been enslaved, and no one has been in a hurry to tell them there's another way to live, because no one wanted to lose access to that energy.

I know this personally, because there's a slave revolt happening in my own household. The moment you free Generators, real problems begin — you actually have to deal with it. But being a messenger means I'm here to be a nuisance to people, so I'd genuinely like to annoy everyone else on the planet and free every Generator, so they can do what they want and the rest of us can finally get past the frustration. This Cross of Cycles could just as easily be called the Cross of Slavery. You'll meet people here who are deeply frustrated and genuinely gifted — the backbone of a great deal of business, since 32/54 is a crucial trait if you're going to run a business: knowing how to value a product, hire the right workers, people devoted to what you're building and who believe they have a future in it. So this cross is Generator slavery in miniature. Let's free these slaves. If you meet people like this, set them free.
