Being a clarion is social work; the interpersonal role here is to bring shock to those who are already expecting it. That's different from Juxtaposition's shock-for-its-own-sake — once it becomes transpersonal, karma enters the picture, and whoever gets shocked by this cross was, in some sense, waiting to be.
This is Ra's own cross, confirmed across thousands of readings: it's exceptionally rare to meet someone unprepared to be shocked — it's part of an invisible deal built into how we're wired. A clarion is literally an instrument that makes noise, so this cross always comes with noise, chatter, and mutation, since three of its four gates are mutative gates.
There's a lock-and-key mechanism at work: people who expect to be shocked carry the receptivity for mutation. Not everyone can mutate — some people are simply immune, others naturally receptive — and that's one of the built-in trades of any left-angle phenomenon. Someone says, 'you seduced me,' and the fifth line answers, 'yes, but you wanted me to.' That's the lock and key of it.
Unlike the Cross of Penetration, where people aren't ready for the shock at all, and unlike Juxtaposition, which shocks simply because shocking is fun, the left angle only shocks the people who are ready for it — not by conscious choice, but because that's simply who ends up on the receiving end.
