With the Sun in the fifth line and the left angle, we come back around to the same old difficulty: nothing is harder than staying kind to another person, because people can behave terribly — think about how many people you've met in your life you'd actually want to talk to again. Gate 37 is the gate of Love, and everyone admires it — 'oh, how sweet' — but the fall of love is hatred, and one turns into the other easily enough.

Someone with the Cross of Migration says, 'I don't want to be around these people anymore, I can't stand them, I'm moving.' That's how planning tends to work: people build a community together, and once it's built — then what? You have to actually live with these people. Building the community held everyone together and felt wonderful; living in it, side by side, is a different story entirely — the classic religious schism, where a group builds a settlement together happily and then discovers they can't stand living in it. 'I can't stand you anymore. I won't listen to you. We'll move over there and build a new house.' America itself was founded by exactly this cross, by Puritans — religious fanatics who migrated because emotional dependency had turned their love into hatred.

There's a scene in The Matrix where one of the machine-agents interrogates Neo and describes humans as a virus, moving into a place, using it up, and moving on. There's something to that: we were never content to just sit in our valley. The moment a valley was settled, someone always wanted to leave but couldn't quite go alone — so they'd stir up trouble, expose the schemes, drag everyone off the settled spot to start over somewhere new. Ants do this constantly and simply move on; we turn it into tragedy and end up hating the people we leave behind.

Someday, when gate 55 changes and the emotional system finally wakes up, an enormous amount will shift in how our awareness works — including how we make deals, fall in love, and build relationships, all of which currently run on an emotional motor that carries no truth in the moment, always somewhat chaotic. We're approaching a point where that chaos settles, and it will change a great deal about how deals — including the deal of love — actually get made.
