In the second variation, gate 39, Provocation, comes forward — the emotional gate whose entire job is to test the spirit of others by creating friction. An emotional Generator with this gate might push someone away, quite deliberately, just to see whether they come back; that return is the actual information being sought, more honest than anything words could confirm.

This isn't cruelty for its own sake — it's a genuine, if uncomfortable, way of finding out who has real spirit and who's just going through the motions. But it does mean tension gets manufactured on purpose, over and over, as a method.
