The Cross of Planning runs on the channel of Community, gates 37 and 40 — the deal-making that underlies how families and communities actually get organized. When the Sun sits in gate 37, Family, this deal follows naturally from what came before it in Sleeping Phoenix: sexual connection finding its way, eventually, into the formal arrangement of family itself.

This is, in fact, the global theme humanity has been living under since the cross was activated in 1615 — community and deal-making, the whole slow project of building healthcare, education, city infrastructure, and defended borders, all in service of binding people together into something larger than any one of them. But the era of Planning is drawing to a close: by 2027, the precession of the equinoxes moves the global theme onward, and much of what has organized human community for the past four centuries — family and the deals that hold it together, as we currently know them — begins to give way to something more purely individual.
