Gate 17, Line 1 — Open-Mindedness

Full breakdown

You always have an opinion. On almost any subject, you can form a point of view. That's not incidental — it's your nature. The whole process here works through evaluation and critique.

Everything that has a name carries an opinion inside it. Your vocabulary is, in a real sense, a map of your judgments — a huge resource for understanding the world.

What matters is noticing whether you hold opinions across the whole spectrum, or only about what interests and pleases you. Wide openness lets you see more. Narrowing down to "only what's pleasant" shrinks your capacity to understand. Your opinions carry real value, especially when they cover the full range, not just the comfortable part.
