That light detachment isn't a lack of involvement, it's the particular gaze of someone for whom experience always turns into a story eventually.
That observer's stance gives you rich material for your stories. While others dissolve completely into the moment and can barely recall the details afterward, you keep just enough distance to later retell what happened vividly and accurately.
Sometimes that detachment gets in the way of fully living a moment without thinking about how it'll sound in the retelling later. It's worth sometimes deliberately setting the observer's role aside and just being inside what's happening, without the inner narrator running.
