Let's look at the format of the energy. Every time I have to deal with hexagram 3, I wish I could spend six or seven days talking about nothing else, because it's an extraordinary thing. Anyone with hexagram 60 is deeply connected, through gate 3, to the whole existing process of mutation. This format of energy generates the entire mutational field. Gate 3 is the most mutational of all the gates, because it dictates what will become new. It's like a shared material fund where everything carries mutational potential. It's the whole of mutational potential, rooted in the history of the individual process. It goes all the way back to the very beginning. In a mystical sense, gate 3 always represents the New, and gate 60 the Old.

Limitation is what always happens in step with the pulse. If gate 60 could speak, its mantra would sound something like: "What always happens on the pulse always happens in this moment." When that pulse comes back around, passing through gate 3, something new can arise out of a former limitation. Gate 60 holds a particular value, and for the past couple of years we've been living through the energy of Uranus and Neptune in this gate. That means the gene pool — every mutation possible within it — gets activated wherever gate 60 shows up in a chart. Take my relationship with Jurgen, for example: he has gate 3, I have gate 60, and in a connection like that, mutation becomes possible.

Gate 60 is the gate of Acceptance. It's very important to understand this. Every gate in the Root center that forms a format is a gate of potential depression. The depression sitting inside gate 60 says: "It's always been this way. Maybe it always will be." These gates strive toward mutation, they search for something new. The energy pulses, and there's pressure to change. "I'm tired of everything that's been. I'm tired of these limitations. I want to move into a state of mutation, I want to go beyond what already exists. I want to bring in something new." That expectation is always present. But until the limitation is accepted, there's no way to move beyond it. The energy, the fuel, stays held back, and that's the depressive state. It's worth understanding that everything individual — every one of your individual gates — is melancholic by nature. Melancholy is happiness or sadness, and it's non-emotional. It can only be emotional in the stream of 39/55/22/12. If it develops in any other gates, it's a mechanical swing of mood, between sad and happy. In that sense, the depressive self-feeling of individuals is governed by melancholy, and it grows more and more intense the more limited they feel by something.

The only way to move past a limitation is mutation. Over the lines it says: accepting limitation is the first step toward transcendence. There's nothing more complex than the circuit of Knowing, which contains a great many gates. It draws in most of the energy circulation system. It's incredibly complex. For knowing, only something absolutely clear actually matters. The first step on the path of transcendence is accepting limitation. Every individual has to accept the limitations at the start of their own process of transcendence. Otherwise, they'll never be able to move beyond them. They have to accept the limitations of their own individual nature.
