We're now moving down to the Throat center, to the polar gates on its other side. The primary gates of communication feed into the mental process, and now we're going to look at the primary gates of Self — of self-experience — the gates that communicate the nature of a person's genuine individuality. All of these gates connect directly to the G-center, the center of our Self, and so they represent three different qualities of self-experience. We'll start with gate 8. There's collective self-identification — logical in gate 31, abstract in gate 33 — and gate 8 represents individual self-identification. It's called Contribution. Above the lines it reads: the basic value that gets realized when individual efforts are applied toward group goals. The essence of this gate shows up in its voice, which sounds like: "I know I can." It also says: "I know I can't." Like all the voice gates, it carries a polarity. "Through my individuality, and with its help, I can make a contribution to the group's effort." That's the nature of gate 8.
