This is the second of only two variations of the left-angle Masks Cross — right-angle crosses run to four variations, but the left angle only ever has two. The first time we met this cross, the conscious Sun sat in 13; here it sits opposite, in the conscious Earth instead — a full 180-degree flip at the conscious level, which is how every left-angle cross generates its two versions.

Here the conscious Sun sits in 7.5, the fifth-line General, and everyone projects onto the General the belief that he can always resolve the crisis. Because everyone projects this image, this mask, Masks becomes one of the great crosses of projection.

The General matters to us because he operates on a principle we can actually live with: he assumes absolute authority in a crisis and offers a practical solution, then voluntarily hands power back once the crisis ends — that's the role. Anyone who meets people carrying this cross projects onto them the belief that they can deliver a solution, and plenty of these masks eventually crack under the weight of it. The fifth line lives and dies by its reputation: project onto it the power to free you, and if it doesn't deliver, its reputation shatters; if it does, the reputation grows.

The fifth line also means practicality — practical leadership, but one entirely shaped by other people's projection. People with this cross can collapse if they're unprepared; if your profile carries a second or fifth line, preparation matters enormously in your life.
