Gate 43 — Breakthrough — To preserve an achievement, a new order must be clearly established

We've moved into the individual process at hexagram 43, and now we turn to the channel of Structuring, designed for individuality and genius eccentricity. This is the gate of Insight — sudden awareness, the possibility of spontaneous individual knowing, or not. Whether that knowledge has value to anyone else is a separate question. The possibilities of awareness here show up as spontaneous decisions, like the voice of a muse, inspiration, an inner hearing. It's an inner acoustic mind, not a visual one. In gate 43 there's a constant inner dialogue running. It continues throughout the whole stream, and sudden awareness is the awareness that arises inside that inner dialogue: "Oh, I know — something is telling me from within." Whether that can actually be put into words so that others can hear it is another matter entirely. Whoever manages to translate this sudden awareness into ordinary language, who takes that inner dialogue and turns it into spoken speech in order to explain themselves, walks a very particular road. It's a genuinely difficult process.

The Rave I Ching says: to preserve an achievement, a new order must be clearly established. The only real achievement for gate 43 is the ability to explain one's own knowing. Until they can explain their knowledge properly, they won't even feel that they've achieved anything. Because of this, they can become deeply frustrated, and the whole process boomerangs back to hexagram 28 with its question, "Is life worth living?" — or it resonates with hexagram 57, which asks itself whether it's afraid of tomorrow. The bearer of knowledge fears tomorrow when he knows that tomorrow he'll have to explain himself, but doesn't know whether he'll be able to. Because the individual always draws attention, they will also draw dislike and rejection. If they can't explain themselves, they'll be turned away. That's why a deep anxiety lives inside the individual — a fear of the mind that no one will understand what they mean. "They don't know me, they don't know what I mean. They don't know what I want." The advice I give every individual is that they need to learn to communicate, so that they can develop the skills necessary to explain themselves.
