Gate 23 — Splitting Apart — Amorality; recognition and understanding leading to an acceptance of diversity

We began looking at the collective processes in the Throat yesterday, starting with the primary gates of Communication. The collective process in the Throat is about translating internal images or concepts held in the mind into words, so that people can either find meaning in what you're telling them (the abstract process) or come to know and understand facts (the logical process). The individual process works differently, because the individual mind is acoustic. Wherever individual activations show up in a chart, you're looking at something that operates on an acoustic level. So instead of trying to translate some image into a verbal form so people can understand what's being talked about, gate 23 rightfully acts as a translator. It's very much like what my translator does when he translates me — he takes the original, authentic internal sound and finds a way to translate it into words, which finally lets the individual explain themselves.

Full breakdown

The channel 43-23, the Channel of Structuring, represents the individual design summed up by the phrase "from genius to freak." The individual always stands outside the community — unless and until they find a way to explain themselves to the people around them. If the individual can't explain themselves, they'll always be pushed outside — literally, given a place on the outside. Gate 23 doesn't say "I believe," which is the voice of the abstract, or "I think," which is the voice of logic. It says "I know" or "I don't know." And when you say "I know," you'd better be able to explain it — because if you can't, you'll be rejected.

The gloss over the lines reads: amorality. And that's worth knowing about the individual nature. Unlike the collective and tribal processes, which are moralistic, the individual process is not. The absence of morality is the key to the individual process. It isn't about right or wrong, about who's correct and who isn't. It's about what a person knows and what they don't. Recognition and understanding lead to an acceptance of diversity. The difficulty for any individual is wanting to be accepted, to be received. They always draw attention. And because the individual is different from everyone else and carries the potential of mutative force within them, they can easily be rejected. The moment an individual starts moralizing, that's the first thing that gets them rejected. The reality is that individuals are simply different from other people. Whether that's good or bad isn't really the question at all.
